How To Study The Bible Counsel 9
Greetings to you my friend, I’ll help you to learn how to study the Bible. We must use dictionaries. Take heed that the word is in the plural form, “dictionaries”.
One indispensable tool is your everyday dictionary, such as the Encarta online dictionary. Everyday dictionaries are acceptable and useful. We should put them to use. However to deeply know the meaning of a term, we must use an etymology dictionary.
“Etymology” means knowing the beginning of a word’s meaning. Some words are made up of several smaller words, called “root words”. The etymology shows, to us, the definitions of each of the root words. Some etymologies may have to be rewritten, when more facts arrive.
For example, the Online Etymology Dictionary, at etymonline.com, has normally great etymologies. However, for the word, “abraxas” I discovered that Wikipedia had a more accurate etymology, than has the Online Etymology Dictionary. Sometimes other references are better.
As you find out how to study the Bible, realize that another factor is to be considered. During the period when the King James Bible was authorized, sundry English words were defined differently from how we use them today. One of my copies of the writ holds a list of those words, and what they mean in the holy scripture. I have copied the list and offered it to you on the Biblefixit Dot Com’s web’s site at Biblefixit.com/old-english-words.htm.
The tough part is to examine the list and to discover what words we have to reconsider, as we get into the holy scripture. With such a large list, what are we to do? Look up every word in a chapter, to see if it has a different meaning, from the sense which we already know? Or should we just skim through the list, every once in a while, in hopes that we will be able to call to mind some word, which we saw in our studying?
Preferably, a holy scripture would be, in future, printed, which would include the ancient meanings displayed, or footnoted, on the same page where the words are to be found in their context.
An other type of dictionary is known as the concordance. I use Stong’s Concordance online to get the meaning of Hebrew or Greek words in the scripture, after which I jot them in the margins of my holy scripture. However, I suspect that in many examples, Elohiym’s intention could be a wee bit unlike the Hebrew definitions given in the concordance.
I’ll give, to you, an instance. A good deal of Hebrew names terminate in “iah” or “ia”. “Jeremiah” and “Obadiah” are 2, of them. Also there is the name of God, “Iahveh”. It happens to be as well the German word for “yes”, which is “ja”. The letters “y”, “i”, and “j”, can oft be observed to be interchangeable. German speech may be developed from of old Hebrew. Similarly the American “yeah” (itself derived from “ja”) can also be recognized to be a name of God.
How about we return to the point — the truly old word “ja” deals with breathing. As one of the few, only about a million, alive, which have received the “holy spirit and fire baptism” referred to by Jesus, I can tell you with authority, that “YHVH” is assuredly bound to the concept of “breath”, in a way that cannot and won’t be discovered to them, who are unbaptized in the holy spirit and fire.
However, in the concordances and etymologies, the idea of breath is lacking in the definitions of the words that have “ia”, “jah”, or “iah” in them, and words for “God” have been given instead. It has been done for the reason, that the knowledge of the breath is an occulted matter, and is regularly not put into writings.
Ultimately, we have to grow our faith in Elohiym, to lead us to the true sense of his meanings, and this we do by going into the authorized King James scripture oft, and carrying out that, which Elohiym has therein told us to do.
